I think maybe the Obamas are breaking through my prejudice against opulent wealth and expensive things.
I'm just not feeling the usual nausea over seeing people chatter about expensive fashions. Michelle Obama absolutely deserves designer dresses for the inauguration. Good for her for picking new designers so they can move up in the world a bit too. And she has great taste. Always classy. Never over the top.
Usually when I see such expensive clothes I think "how many starving children could you feed with the money you spent on that dress?" This time I'm thinking "this way this family inspires people will help so many people in the long run."
So maybe the prejudice is sill there, but at least I can see that there are some truly good people who have money to spend. I used to think that opulent wealth and humanitarian values were mutually exclusive.
